Jesper Strömblad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jesper Strömblad (born on November 28th, 1972) is best known as the lead guitarist of the Swedish band In Flames. He is one of the bands founding members and is the only remaining original member. He is responsible for writing the main melodies of In Flames songs, but leaves most of the solo duties to his companion Björn Gelotte, due to his lack of interest in them.[1]
Strömblad started learning music at age 5 with the violin that he played until he turned 12 when he first heard Iron Maiden, at which point he started learning the electric guitar. His father, his grandfather and great grandfather were Swedish folk musicians.

[edit] Other projects
Strömblad formerly played several bands, including Ceremonial Oath, HammerFall, Sinergy and Poltergeist.
He is currently the bassist of Dimension Zero. He is also currently a member of a side project called All Ends ([1]), for which he and his In Flames bandmate Björn Gelotte both write the music. Neither of them plan to play in the side project live due to In Flames' demanding schedule, but they continue to aid in writing songs for the band to play live.
[edit] Break from In Flames
In October 23rd, 2006 Jesper decided to take a break from the band, due to undisclosed "issues to deal with" back home, in Sweden. The band's close friend and former touring guitarist Niklas Engelin, is once again filling in onstage.
[edit] Equipment
Jesper currently uses ESP guitars, and his favourite is the EX-series. He was endorsed by ESP until the recording of Reroute to remain, where he switched to Gibson with his fellow bandmate Björn Gelotte. Björn is still using Gibson-guitars, but Jesper is back at ESP. During his time at Gibson, he only used the Gibson Voodoo-model, and only the Flying V and Explorer-models.
Both the guitarists of In Flames are known for using the Peavey 5150 amp, but have also started to use the 6505-series. The only differences between these two amps are cosmetical. Jesper also uses a Line 6 POD XT Pro for his clean sounds, just like Björn.
He believes that the greatest guitar of all time is the Fender Stratocaster, but he has never been seen playing one onstage, because he prefers the Explorer type for metal. [2]

I don't have any Strat but I'm thinking of buying one, or maybe a Jazzmaster or a Mustang. (...) I have been persuaded by my bandmates that the ultimate metal guitar is the Explorer."
