Talk:Jerry Moran

[edit] OBVIOUS & EXTREME POLITICAL BIAS
This entire biography reads like a campaign advertisement and includes many statements which are unsubstantiated and non-objective, here are but a few examples:
1) Example Problem No. 1 - "Throughout his time in Congress, Moran has been an advocate and leader on issues important to Middle America." There are many people, including voters in his district, that believe that this man is anything but a "leader" on "issues important to middel America". In fact, many believe that he is a "follower", not a "leader" and that he is mostly interested in serving the wealthy and coportate interests at the expense of middle America. Therefore, if Mr. Moran wishes to keep this statement in his campaign speech at Wikipedia, it seems as if it should say "MOran wants people to believe that he is a leader..." or "Moran claims he is a leader....", etc.
2) Example Problem No. 2 - "Moran also is a strong proponent for lowering health care costs". However, many visitor to Wikipedia know that Moran has not done anything to lower healthcare costs and infact some if not many would show how Moran has shown 100% support to doctors and hospitals and HMOs in their quest to protect their high healthcare pricing. This sentence simply should not be included unless it includes a statment like, "Moran wants people to believe that he is a stonrg proponent for lowering health care costs" or "Moran claims that is is a proponent for lowering healthcare costs".
3) Example Problem 3 - Ditto of above for the statement "Moran also is a strong proponent for providing opportunities for small businesses" - as many visitors here would see Moran's actions in the legislature as supporting big busines not small business.
4) Example Problem 4 - Ditto of above for the statement "strong propent for protecting the rural way of life' - this is a very vague statement. This biography is about a legislator and there is no proof that he protects the rural way of life.
5) Example Problem 5 - In paragraph beginning "In the House, Moran is a leading advocate". This statement is biased and unsubstantiated. As mentioned above, Moran is not viewed by many as a "leader" at all. He is a representative, not a leader and many of his consitutents do not view him as a "leader" at all. What does he lead?
6) Example Problem 6 - In the same paragraph as #5, note the sentence that states "he is one of the few remaining champions in Congress...". With over 500 congressmen, how can it be considered unbiased to say of any congressman, that he is "one of the few" or "one of the few remaining" or worse, to say he is a "champion"? The fact that he serves on this or that committee (part of his job) does not make him a "champion" or "one of the few" or even that the population of so-called self-described champions are declining to the point that this man who has only served in Congress can say he is one of the "few remaining" of anything at all. This entire paragraph is an advertisement. Perhaps the bias could be straigntened out here by quoting this by saying that Moran states "I am a champion".
[edit] Unsupported statement
Despite being from a very conservative state Moran has made financial contributions to The Planned Parenthood Federation of America and has made Pro-Choice comments and statements at Republican Party Dinners and Fundraisers.
This needs a cite. What "pro-choice comments and statements" has he made? Links and quotes would be good. --Mr. Billion 08:17, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
This article dosn't sound like it's unbiased, the second paragraph sounds like a puff piece, copy and pasted from a congressional biography. -Rtaycher1987
