Jerry O'Connor

Jerry O'Connor (born 1979) is an Irish sportsman. He is a midfield player on the Cork senior hurling team.

Jerry O'Connor was born in Newtownshandrum, County Cork in 1979. A member of An Garda Síochána by profession he currently plays club hurling with Newtownshandrum and inter-county hurling with Cork. He made his first appearance at inter-county level in 2000, coming on as a substitute against Kerry in the Munster championship. Later that year O'Connor played a key role when his club, Newtownshandrum, won the Cork Senior Hurling Championship. Although he already had All Ireland Under-21 medals to his name this win secured his position on the Cork senior hurling team for 2001. Since then O'Connor has had much success at club and county levels winning 2 All-Ireland medals, 2 Munster Championship medals, as well as an All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship medal and several county championship medals with 'Newtown'. O'Connor and his brother Ben set a record in 2005 when they both wonAll Star Awards, thus becoming the first set of twins to win the awards. He has also been named as Hurler of the Year on one occasion.
