Jeremy Staat

Jeremy Staat (born October 10, 1976 in Bakersfield, California) is a former American Football defensive end who played four seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Rams from 1998 to 2000 and three games in 2003. He also played for the Los Angeles Avengers arena football team. Staat made the news recently by joining the military on March 10, 2006 and is currently waiting for active duty.
Staat was a two-sport star in Bakersfield High School in California, where he was All-Area and then went to a Junior College for two years. Staat was a former teammate of deceased former Arizona Cardinals free safety and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman where they were good friends while playing college football in Arizona State University where he won the Morris Trophy as the best defensive lineman in the Pac-10 league in 1997. He was drafted in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Steelers where he played three seasons, starting in eleven games in the 1999 season. Staat played in 31 career games, recording 20 tackles and no quarterback sacks.
Tillman's death motivated Staat to join the Marine Corps.
