"Jenny from the Block" is the first single released from Jennifer Lopez' fourth studio album This Is Me... Then (2002). Released in 2002, it features rappers Styles P and Jadakiss.

The song attempts to contrast the life of Lopez growing up in The Bronx, New York City, with her later life as a celebrity. She claims that despite her success, she is still "Jenny from the block", which had some critics deriding both the song and her as being "hypocritical".

The music video, directed by Francis Lawrence, shows how publicized her relationship with Ben Affleck was, and it is meant to emphasize her Bronx roots. Ironically, Styles P and Jadakiss are from Queens and Yonkers, respectively.

On a Channel 4 documentary telling of Jennifer's rise to popularity, former friends and residents from Castle Hill, her neighbourhood in The Bronx, told of how she had not been in contact with them since she had left her hometown or even visited since she became successful and found it hypocritical of her to film the video for "Jenny from the Block" on luxury yachts with Ben Affleck rather than in her hometown.

Despire not reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 like many of her previous singles, "Jenny from the Block" is considered to be one of Lopez's signature songs. The song title has been referenced many times in the media, similar to that of Madonna with "Material Girl" and Christina Aguilera with "Dirrty".

The song was voted as being the 10th Worst Pop Song of all time in a 2004 poll on Channel 4.[1]

The song's instrumentals are sampled from Boogie Down Productions's 1987 "South Bronx".
