Jenny Leong

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jenny Leong, originally from South Australia, was the Australian Greens candidate in the Division of Sydney in the 2004 Australian federal election. Polling 21.61% of the primary vote, Jenny received the highest first preference vote for any Greens candidate in that election. Although there was only an outside chance of the Greens winning Sydney, polling in the electorate during the campaign was strong enough to concern the Australian Labor Party[1]. Indeed, Labor's ability to hold the seat seems to be connected to the fact that the local member, Tanya Plibersek, is one of, if not the most, left-wing Labor MP.

Leong also ran second on the Greens ticket in local council elections earlier in 2004, missing out on a council place by just 277 votes.

Since January 2006, Jenny Leong has been President of the Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA). She has also been a Co-Convenor and Spokesperson for the Cross Campus Concessions Coalition since May 2006[2].
