Jennifer Pike

Jennifer Elizabeth Pike (born November 1989 in Stockport, Cheshire) is a young British violinist.

Pike attended an ordinary school until she was eight years old, then joined Chetham's School of Music in Manchester. She is joined the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London in September 2006.

[edit] First steps into music

Pike gave her first recital at the age of eight, and within two years she was chosen to play in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales, having been selected to take part in the Associated Board National High Achievers’ concert at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. At the same age she made her concerto debut, playing Haydn's Violin Concerto in G with the Chetham's School Orchestra and with the Lake District Summer Music Orchestra in the Menuhin Concert, Windermere.

[edit] BBC Young Musician of the Year

In 2002 Pike became the 13th person to win the BBC Young Musician of the Year Award, following her performance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. Aged 12 at the time, she is the youngest winner of the competition so far. Earlier the same year she won fourth prize in the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition.
