The accident took place in Danskin Canyon, near the 18,000-acre Anderson fire, which started Aug. 10, according to a Boise National Forest spokesman, Lee Singer. Allen Quintana, a spokesman for the Santa Fe National Forest in New Mexico, said the victims were from the Jemez No. 4 Indian firefighting team at the Jemez Pueblo northwest of Albuquerque. The crew had been in Idaho since Aug. 12. The accident site is 12 miles east of the base camp for 1,764 firefighters and support personnel. There were 62 fire crews trying to contain the Anderson fire, which erupted in a lightning storm that also started other blazes across the Northwest.
