Gulfport, Ms

I lived at 1507 Sadler Dr. Gulfport, Ms. until August 29, 2005. When Katrina made her most unwelcome visit on us, I like so many other residents, prepared for a storm, but not well enough.

My home was totally wiped out by the wind and waves. Nothing remained but the slab.

My story is not unlike thousands of others, but as a lifelong professional musician and songwriter, I have put my perspective into a song.

I named this song, Slabbed, because that is exactly what happened to me and so many others. I don’t know how else to put it.

The events leading up to and afterwards that I sing about, are the events and feelings that I experienced.

I have tried to remain upbeat about this whole thing, so therefore I wrote the music with an upbeat feel. We all have had enough depression, so I felt no need to write a slow, sad, or bluesy feeling song.

How else can we look at this terrible thing? It happened and now it is time for us all to move on, to rebuild. We can’t dwell on what has been done already.

Let’s be happy that we survived. Let’s pray for those who did not. Let’s make our beautiful coast better than ever.

I hope you like my composition: Slabbed
