The city-county merger in 2003 did not dissolve all of the other cities in Jefferson County. Many of them (including Jeffersontown) still exist independently.

Agreed, Although Louisville is the 16th largest by comparision, It only ranks 25th by the U.S. Census because the Census did not ignore other incorporated muncipalities that exisited in Jefferson County. The Census only counted the old Louisville city and the unincorporated areas that were annexed due to the merger. Moreau36
