Since this is a board encyclopedia that covers popular culture topics, I thought that one about ‘JeffK’, who is somewhat of a popular icon, would be fine. Do you object to the way the article was written or do you object to the article its’ self? User:AaronNorris
It's at least as encyclopedic as Penny Arcade, Kuro5hin, and other such "internet culture" things. I might support deleting this article and wrapping it up into one Something Awful article that discusses Jeff K as one part of the site. -- Delirium
Removed part about "created during campaign to drive users from his site"; the JeffK character significantly predates that campaign. -- Delirium
JEFFK's even been parodied - (dump teh xul) - so he's certainly recognisable Kirun

[edit] Did Jeff K originate the term asshat?
Did Jeff K really originate the term "asshat"? I guess it wouldn't be too surprising if he did, since somethingawful.com has turned out to be the source of more than a few bits of Internet drollery, but I'm sure I remember seeing "asshat" in use before Jeff K. appeared on the scene. The earliest uses I've been able to find are in Usenet here and here, but I'm curious if it's older still.

- I'm almost certain he didn't, I'm also skeptical at the though he "popularized" it, and am really unsure why it's even in there. Also I am however 100% positive he didn't start the misspelling of "teh", as the article claims JeffK was created mid May 1999, and I know its been on the internet since LONG before then, in fact I had a close friend who used the term often on his website, long before then. I was called a "clownboat" on IRC at least a year before Jeff K. was supposedly created. I was trading insults with another chatter when he began calling me nonsense phrases consisting of two seemingly random words put together. I decided to mock him by changing my nick to each ridiculous insult that was thrown at me, and thus gained the handle "Clownboat" (his first insult, which was followed by the less-attractive "fagmelon"), which I've used ever since that fateful day. However, the term was undoubtedly in use some time before that incident. This occurred sometime in 1997 or 1998, but since I cannot speficy an exact date or provide written evidence, I'll leave the article as-is. If further information surfaces confirming the existence of the term before Jeff K. used it, it should be removed from the article for brevity.

[edit] Error re:use of numbers in sentences
The article says that the Jeff K articles never substitute numbers for letters, and that 'Jeff' is merely an awful speller, but that contention is in conflict with the slang cited in the previous sentence, 'l33t,' which clearly has a pair of 3s subbed in for the slightly-more-correct Es. Which is true?

Jeff K.'s last name isn't Kyanka. It's something ridiculous like Karpopandopolis. It was mentioned in a letter he got from the department of justice.

The article refers to Kyanka, but has no mention of Something Awful itself or where Jeff K originated, and just jumps directly into describing him. A sentence at the beginning along the lines of 'Jeff K is a fictional character and part of a Something Awful main page feature' or something but I'm not sure on that and don't know how to word it.

Is Jeff K.'s appearance as a "hidden" character in the fan-produced Awful Fantasy game (a parody of Something Awful, related personalities, and Internet sub-cultures using Final Fantasy VI as a vehicle, wherein Jeff K. took the place of Umaro) worthy of mention in the article?--Clownboat 07:08, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
