[edit] Background

Jefferson High School was established in the Fall of 1972 after a consolidation of three high schools in Jefferson County: Charles Town High School, Harpers Ferry High School, and Shepherdstown High School. Its placement in Shenandoah Junction was chosen because it was a central and neutral location among the three former high school districts. Currently, it is the only high school in Jefferson County. Construction has begun on a second high school near the Huntfield development in Charles Town.

Jefferson High School is one of the few overcrowded schools in West Virginia. Students complain about a lack of ability to navigate the hallways.
