Jeff Stein

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeff Stein was the Republican candidate for the eighth Congressional district in the 2006 Maryland congressional elections. He faced popular Democratic incumbent Chris Van Hollen in the general election on November 7, 2006. Stein ran a radical right wing campaign and received the lowest number of votes in the history of the 8th Congressional District, garnering only 21% (40,678 out of a whopping 193,000)of the vote compared to Van Hollen's 78%

An analysis of the results showed that Stein could not even garner a usually straight line right-leaning base. While most Republican candidates faired at 31-33%, Stein managed to still get nearly 11% lower than his fellow Republicans. His fundamentalist campaign may have proven even too conservative for Montgomery County.

A transplant from New York, Stein believed he could garner the strong Jewish base in Montgomery County. This plan backfired and even Republicans would not vote for him on election day.

This may not be the last of Jeff Stein. He is planning on running and winning in 2008. And if his showing in 2008 will be anything like this year, he will get 16%.
