Theatre Directors:
Jeff Puukka is a native Oregonian, and the founder of the eccentric Discovery Theatre Lab, the only experimental theatre program based in Gresham, Oregon. His most popular work has tended manifest in brooding revivals of classical plays. His innovative production of Sophocles' Oedipus in 2001, was his own version. Abandoning the traditional "unity of time", his production charted completely new ground, exploring the relationships of Laius and Jocasta, Jocasta and Creon, and Oedipus and Jocasta in additional scenes not present in typical translated productions. In 2006 Puukka's production of The Tower-Maiden's Daughter was hailed by theatre professor Victoria Pohl: "It is so important, I think, to do theatre like this, based on myths and legends, that explores metaphor in this way..."
