Jeff Hanneman (born January 31, 1964 in Oakland, California) is best known as the guitarist and founding member of the American thrash metal band Slayer. Hanneman has remained a permanent member of the group writing the majority of the bands lyrics and music. Hanneman currently resides in California with wife Kathryn and despite the claims from sources does not have any children.

Hanneman has written the band's most infamous songs "Angel of Death" and "Raining Blood". Hanneman also wrote the music for many of Slayer's classic songs "South of Heaven", "War Ensemble" and "Seasons in the Abyss". Slayer's earlier records were dominated by Hanneman's song-writing, forming a music and lyric writing partnership with Tom Araya, which can overshadow the creative input of Kerry King. Hannemans interest in music derived from punk-rock music. which led to Slayer's Undisputed Attitude album. He cites Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Verbal Abuse, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys and T.S.O.L as his punk influences.[1]

Hanneman has long had an interest in Nazi Germany and Nazi war medals, the subject to much of the lyrics he writes. Many people have taken this to be evidence that Hanneman, as well as the rest of Slayer, are Nazis. The song "Angel of Death" is based on Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who committed horrifying experiments on prisoners of the concentration camps in Auschwitz.[2] The band have stated numerous times that they do not condone Nazism or racism, and are merely interested in the subject.[3]

Hanneman is a fan of Heineken lager and is often seen with the drink in publicity photos and photos in the liner notes for several of Slayer's albums including South of Heaven. During the Unholy Alliance Chapter II tour, Hanneman could be seen playing a guitar with a Heineken logo as a custom finish.[4]

Joey Fuchs from the ill-fated American band Bloodcum featuring Johnny Araya, brother of Tom, is not Hanneman's brother. Hanneman stated it was a joke as when they claimed to be brothers as they looked alike.[1]
