[edit] Biography
Jeff is from the Snow Wood Boarding School in Winters. His traits are those of a stereotypical nerd; he wears glasses and lacks physical ability, but is great with mechanics. Jeff wears glasses to correct for myopia. He wakes up in the middle of the night at a point receiving a telepathic message from Paula informing him that she and Ness need help. At that time, Ness and Paula were taken under captivity by zombies during their investigation of the undead-infested town Threed. Jeff breaks out of his dormitory with help from his friend Tony. He also acquires the Bad Key Machine from Maxwell, an older student at the school, in order to unlock the lockers in the store room. Maxwell also allows Jeff to save his game. Once he breaks out, he meets an important character named Brickroad, who devotes himself to making RPG dungeon complexes for unknown reasons. He meets another important character, his long lost dad who he had never seen for ten years, the time in the past when Giygas sent attacks to the time Ness comes from. Dr. Andonuts, his dad, lets Jeff use a machine called the Sky Runner (called Sky Walker in the Japanese version of the game) in order to travel the distance to reach Ness and save them from eternal imprisonment. Once he joins them, he becomes the third member of the party. Dr. Andonuts later reveals to Ness that Jeff is a bed-wetter.
[edit] Abilities
Jeff is the only member of the four that cannot use PSI power, but he has two advantages that the other characters don't have: Jeff can repair broken items, for some reason only throughout the night taking a rest at a hotel, Ness's house, and a few other locations. The resulting items are often, but not always weapons. Such items include the Defense Shower, the Slime Generator, the Heavy Bazooka, and many more items that are helpful for battle. The Gaia Beam, his ultimate weapon, is also acquired this way by repairing a Broken Antenna, which can be found 1/128 times by defeating Uncontrollable Spheres at Lumine Hall. His IQ stat is what determines his ability to repair broken items, making it important to give him IQ capsules to raise the attribute to make it more likely that he has the capacity of fixing the items. However since his weapons are guns, the players will not find themselves getting SMAAAASH!! hits (EarthBound's equivalent of a "critical hit") using Jeff often. His speed is somewhat low, but still greater than Ness', and he has more defense than Ness and Paula have.
Jeff is the only character that uses the most powerful item in the game: the Multi-bottle rocket (Japanese: Pencil Rocket 20). Some veterans argue that this item makes the game too easy once obtained, given its extreme attack power, despite the fact that one boss in the game can actually turn its power against Jeff.
Jeff's ability to fix items may hint to players his importance. At times, he comes into action around some vehicles and repairs them, allowing the team to progress to different areas of the game.
[edit] Mother 3
Jeff only makes a small appearence in Mother 3.Like the rest of the gang, he appears during the movie that plays in the New Pork City Theater. Jeff's father, Dr. Andounts, also makes an appearence in the game, building weapons for Pokey alongside the Mr. Saturns. There are also two look-alikes of Jeff in the game. The first would be Nicholas, who wears glasses and a blue-green suit (Although Jeff wears a darker tint of blue-green). The second would be Paul, who not only has glasses, but a bowl cut hair-style as well.
