Jean-François Deniau

Jean François Deniau (born October 31, 1928) is a French statesman, essayist and novelist

Deniau was born in Paris. He was elected to the Académie française on April 9, 1992.

In 1958, he became the director of Foreign Relations for the European Commission. In 1963, he was named French ambassador to Mauritania and in 1967 was appointed as one of the French European Commissioners, as a member of the Rey Commission. He was responsible for the accession negotiations of Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark and Norway and for assistance to developing countries.
