Jean-Baptiste Élissalde

Jean-Baptiste Elissalde (b. November 23 1977 in La Rochelle) is a French rugby union footballer. He plays both scrum-half and fly-half. He played in Stade Rochelais until 2002 then decided to go to Stade Toulousain, where he has had a hard time becoming a team member, competed by Frédéric Michalak and Yann Delaigue.

Yet he became the number one scrum half in Toulouse and is competing with Biarritz's Dimitri Yachvili for the number 9 shirt in the French national team. He was notably the best French scorer during the 2004 Grand Slam scoring 36 points.

He also won the Heineken Cup twice (2003 and 2005) but has never won the Top 14.

On December 1st 2005, he had been capped 14 times.

His name, which is a very frequent Basque name, means "near the church" in Basque.
