Jazz in the Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jazz in the Park is a free outdoor music concert series held annually at Cathedral Square Park in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. It takes place Thursday evenings from June through September and showcases diverse jazz talent from across the nation.
The event, along with Summerfest and the many ethnic and cultural festivals held through out the city, are what give Milwaukee the nickname "City of Festivals."
[edit] Description
It was created in 1990 by the East Town Association as a way to draw people to the downtown neighborhood. Since then, Jazz in the Park has grown to an attendance of over 4,000 people a week that spill out on to the streets and surrounding businesses. Many couples bring wine and lawn chairs to enjoy with the music, while children can be found playing on the nearby playground equipment.
Jazz in the Park celebrates its 16th year in 2006. Smooth Jazz WJZI-FM (93.3) is one of the sponsors.
