[edit] Archive & Esperanza

It's no problem . . . someone just forgot to add the note when you joined. You might want to take some of the older entried off of your talk page and just keep them in the Archive . . . I notice you have a lot of entries on your talk page and it takes a whole to load on dialup, so I just backed them up to a subpage (btw, to make a subpage just in case you don't know how, just create a link like this: User:Jayant412/Sandbox and click on it . . . a new subpage will be created. Great for archives or diaries or stuff that you aren;t ready to put in Main. :) (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 18:12, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New User message?

Could you look at Item 25 on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Esperanza and comment on it -- this is a proposal that I think may save many of us headaches in the future. (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 23:13, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Task bar

I've successfully created an open list of tasks on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Dinosaurs main page for those who would actually like to know what to do with their time on the project. Add tasks as you wish, no too long though! Add your name to tasks you wish to be part of & that's as complicated as it gets... Thanks, Spawn Man 23:31, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yes User:AlMac|(talk) been busy

Wikipedia for me, is a place I go when I have some time off from an exhausting job. The last few weeks I been too tired for much of anything but work, and rest. The work is fascinating. That keeps me going. Every few days a new challenge. User:AlMac|(talk) 07:10, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Instrumental

Man, I like it. I like it a lot. My only suggestion is some more variation; a kind of "intro, middle, end" thing. But it sounds great! -M o P 04:46, 14 March 2006 (UTC)\ P.S. When I hear this I kinda think of the rise of day; maybe call it Dawn?

Hey! I agree, it really has something, and i think the name dawn is good! When i read it i was like YES!--Ali K 08:56, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
I really like the instrumental as well! Dawn, daybreak... it all fits nicely. :) Cheers, Sango123 (e) 01:58, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

The song's great! You really have talent and it's good to see someone like you come out and show it off!! And looking at the above message...Holi is fast approaching. So...

[edit] Please help!!!!

I know I haven't spoken to you in a while, but I really need your help. One of my subpages (User:Spawn Man/Reviews) has been picked out by a big time editor & is now up for deletion here, Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Spawn Man/Reviews. I know it may sound like I only come around when I need something, but this is really important to me. I only did this as a last resort. Please vote to keep the page & I'll do anything, eat your shoes, clean your toilets for a year, even wear one of those t shirts that say I'm stupid! I just want my page which I've spent so much time on to be left alone. Thanks, Spawn Man 01:13, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

I cast my vote to keep. (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 22:11, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry

I don't really know what to say about the debate on Spawn Man's page. Things like this make me really nervous. I read the comments and I didn't really know what to say. I'll see what I can do though. Sorry about the inconvenience. Evan Robidoux 00:59, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

P.S.: Also, about the song update, it was really good. Keep it up!

[edit] AfD

Please don't take this as an attack but from reading your comments on Wikipedia:Miscellany_for_deletion/User:Spawn_Man/Reviews it seems you are not fully aware of the point of AfD or how they work - nominating a page is not the same as saying it should be deleted, and you can't make an argument that the AfD should be closed, it's a place for everyone to air their opinion on whether or not something should stay.ZoFreX 02:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Strictly speaking, you weren't really following the rules in the AfD when you rpoposed that it be closed . . . that is a forum for supposedly fair arbitration . . . a proposal to close the discussion would only be appropriate when it is obvious all the votes are to keep or delete (WP:SNOW) or if the nomination is withdrawn or the author says he withdraws the page and wishes it deleted hi,/her self.
Nonetheless, I do not think that Spawn_Man was being treated fairly and tend to side with you on this issue. If everyone followed the rules religiously here, about 70% of the encyclopedia would be deleted. And community building and decency does account for something. Anyway, thanks for the birthday wishes! :* (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 17:47, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry, we all make statements in anger from time to time. In this case though, I think we had reason to be angry since this was an attack on a very productive member and since it seems that opiniopns were ruling out over good faith. I think the way to handle this is to not take Wikipedia overly seriously . . . it's a great way to find new information and learn stuff, and to have fun while doing so, but like at every other place, there are jerks and many people who seem to enjoy being jerks. I wouldn't let them run things for me, you know, just tale it in your stride. I was chastized just today for adding a welcome message to someone's blank user page instead of their talk page . . . it was a simple mistake, and it's not like I haven't welcomed hundreds of people her before, but making others feel small is the way some people make themselves feel big. The way I see it is you just do the best you can and ignore the idiots. But there is nothing wrong with standing up for your friends, either. :) (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 19:02, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request,Nomination for removal of Khalistan article

Hello Sir I'm nominating this page for deletion because it is written with a point of view , excessive use of unreliable sources.and the title "Khalistan" is wrong for the topic because "Khalistan" does not exist, lack of support from resident Punjabi's and Sikhs in India, but there was a "Movement for Khalistan" and that is the right title for the topic, and i think this whole article "a new name" should be rewritten with the help of people from sikh community "in" India and other Indians, because this topic is related to politics/people of India. We all should understand Khalistan is not a political entity and having a article is not justified, Microsoft Encarta and Britannic encyclopedia don't have an article known as "Khalistan" but they do have articles on the movement that took place decades back, and i think there are also copyright issues involved with this article because big parts of this article are written on other peoples research. Many reliable sources are used to show "one side" of their view on the topic, there are also indications that organisations banned by US and EU are involved in providing their research on the movement.I am a strong supporter to have a stub on this topic , but im afraid that such articles on wikipedia have become mouthpieces for organisation which are known for disrupting peace (assassination of one of india's prime minister, twin bomb blast in New Delhi on the eve of Diwali) in Indian sub continent. This article requires your attention , please help. Anmol.2k4 18:48, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Thanks for the support of Pchurch and me Jayantji. Maybe I will just take a wikibreak for a while, but I really am just getting plum beat trying to maintain civility here. At any rate, I will dip in and check my messages so if you need any help, or advice that I can give you, please let me know. I just don't think I will try to be Miss Goodbar anymore trying to defend every article that could be decent and all of the newbies who are attacked like they were deliberate vandals. I get the feeling that it seems like its only me at work here, with only a few others caring. At any rate, the main artuicles that I had wanted to get up here were Satyananda Stokes, Sacred Heart Convent School (watch out, vanity article!), a series on Prostitution in India (we have the ignoble distinction of being one of the major destinations for human trafficking in the world), and Adela Florence Nicholson. if you can improve on any of those, please feel free. I will be around, but my fighting for right and active contributing will probably decrease a great deal. I just don't have the stamina. Although I must admit, you have been one of the best people around here to deal with. If not for gentlemen (and ladies) such as you, I would have given up long before. Keep up with the music! [edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

[edit] Hi Jayant!

I'd just like to say again how very grateful I am for your help regarding the info about solar power. I actually have an idea for an invention, but unfortunately, despite my education, my knowledge of physics and electrical engineering is very poor.

I noticed a few things about your userpage. First, you say that you'd like to travel the world, well, I hope you get that wish, you're an intelligent and thoughtful person and you deserve it. I also noticed that you like cold weather, well I'm from one of the coldest countries in the world, so you'd probably love it here.

I also noticed that you said you're depressed. Do you really suffer from depression? If so I hope it will end soon and that you'll live a happy life, full of travel to very cold places! Loomis51 00:48, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi there Jayant, I hope I'm not bothering you too much; I was just wondering, if you have any spare time in your busy schedule, could you look at the Editor review page and try to maybe review me? Oh, and the new single is awesome; however, the recording quality made it a little rough sounding, but I can tell thats only the technology being bad. Good work! _-M o P-_ 20:53, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Dinosaurs

Hi Jayant!

There's currently less than 100 dinosaurs left on the Missing dinosaur page. We've come a long way! I was thinking that since there's just under 100 dinosaurs left, and since there are 25 of us signed on for the project, if we each wrote about four articles, we'd be done! Well, not "done", obviously, as many of the articles are in need of expansion. But then we could focus on expansion and other things.

You could take, say, Palaeosauriscus, Paleosaurus, Patagosaurus and Peishansaurus.

It's just an idea, of course, and you're of course not obligated and can do whatever you like; I just figured I'd mention the idea, and see if you were interested. No harm, right?

Take care, --Firsfron 06:50, 23 April 2006 (UTC) :)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
Stressbusters
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

[edit] Hi

Hiya,

Incase you didn't get the message on my talk page, just to let you know, it would be great if you could write some reviews for my reviews page. It would be extra awesome if you could review any of the existing stuff I've reviewed. Just write your review, put it on my reviews talk page & I'll add it in. Thanks for the welcome, not many people were that happy to see me back for some reason... :(... Spawn Man 01:32, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:User Page award.

Well as the overseer, I don't think it would be appropriate for me to pass judgement on your userpage. However, as the nominations are hardly flooding in, and this is not the first (and hopefully not the last!) round, you are very welcome to add your self-nomination without fear of 'taking up' a place. :) Cheers, Petros471 17:36, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

I've just changed the link to permanent link format to prevent a most recent 'diff' showing. Otherwise fine, and the way you did it would have been clear enough, it's just slightly tidier the other way (btw, I used the 'permanent link' option in the toolbox menu). [edit] Collaboration

Hi Jayant. Let me unconfuse you about the whole collaboration thingy. It basically works like the Article Improvement Drive, where people vote for an article they really really want edited. You can still edit other articles, & you don't even have to edit the article nominated, but it just helps focus the group's attention at improving a single article. So continue editing as you were, & feel free to vote or edit the nominated article. Thanks, Spawn Man 23:10, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

BTW, I'm sure you want to support my Velociraptor article by clicking here? It would help the dinosaur cause a lot. Have a think about it. I'm glad I helped help you out. Thanks, Spawn Man 02:42, 23 June 2006 (UTC). P.S., if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask!

[edit] A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

For the great news. I'm just so glad that Arundhati's back and *CONGRATS* for the new elec guitar!! As for the cds, I suggest you buy Arctic Monkeys. Since you're a big rock fan..you'll definately enjoy them(to help you more, arctic monkeys' songs have a very very very very slight resemblence to Franz Ferdinand).Victoria Eleanor 14:44, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Stadium Arcadium you mean? Nah I haven't heard that yet but I might as well check it out. A question though...How much does a CD cost in India?Victoria Eleanor 15:31, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Hmm...Rs.645.. I guess that's about 8 pounds, which is quite expensive for a CD. And no I haven't heard of The Bravery but i'll try to since their an alternative rock band which is what I love!Anyway did you see the France vs Brazil match. What a shocker!! I'm gutted though that England coudn't get through but Brazil's exit has made me so very happy. I have no energy left to see Brazil win the World cup for the 6th time! [edit] Sorry

Sorry, I have been EXTREMELY busy so had to set my Wikipedia interests aside for a short time, but felt obligated to express my sympathies to you and your countrymen for the shocking events of the terrorist attack you just sustained. I know it is not the first such event in your country ... The attack on your Parliament building was terrible ... and I know, unfortunately, it will not be the last.

But anyhow I just wanted to express feelings of sorrow to you that your nation has been attacked. User:AlMac|(talk) 23:23, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The bombings

Unfortunately the world is undergoing a revolution of sorts. We of the democracies have prided ourselves on having a free and open society, but the terrorists are attacking this. To the degree we impose extra security on transportation and other infrastructures, in a sense the terrorists have won.

Lots of extra security at the airports. The terrorists have won a victory. We have to go thru so many extra hassles just to travel around.

Prevent cell phones from working where the trains run. The terrorists have won a victory. Our convenience has been dsirupted.

Prevent people from traveling around the nation to admire the scenery (because terrorists can spread biological weapons into our food supply) and again the terrorists have won.

So we either continu our free and open society, and reamin at risk of more attacks like this, or we do things to make it more difficult for them to do their thing, which at the same time means we have a less free less open society. Either way, we lose.

Hopefully your generation can dream up new systems and technologies that can block the terrorism, without sacrificing our democratic values. User:AlMac|(talk) 17:44, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A few useless ramblings

Wow, I'm the first person to edit this page since last time, when I edited it.

So, I have two things mainly and they both lead to the other and I have no idea which one to start with :/

I'll start with the user: About two months ago, I first met the wonderful user, Phædriel. She is a lot of things, but they are all positive, mushy things so I'll leave it at that. :P This leads to the second bigger thing.

She started not too long ago a "soundtrack"…where you can list yourf avourite songs, etc. Well, this mushroomed into a few other thing, such as a cinema, a kitchen and a bookshelf. So down to the advertising part: I created one myself for quotes; the Notebook. I was wondering if you would add to my fame even more humble me so much as to review it (if your div style skills are lacking, don't worry, mine are too)? :P And since I know you like music, leave a bit at the Soundtrack. See you in the Coffee Lounge…mate. ;) —$ΡЯΙNGεrαgђ (-C|ε|L|T|-) 01:49, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

[edit] September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!

[edit] November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
