Jaycee Chan (Chinese: 房祖名; pinyin: Fáng ZǔMíng; Cantonese: Fong Jo Ming), is an actor, professional singer, composer, lyricist and guitarist who released his first CD album in 2004.
He is the son of Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan and Taiwanese actress Lin Feng-Jiao. He was born Chan Jo-Ming (陳祖明), but changed his surname to Fong/Fang as this is his true ancestral name.[1] Although this is his name in the Eastern hemisphere, his name remains "Jaycee Chan" in the Western hemisphere with a few sources listing him as "Jaycee Fong".
He was born on December 3, 1982, in Los Angeles, California[2], but other sources, including Jackie Chan's autobiography, state that he was born in 1984 and that his parents were married in 1983. Jackie's official website states that he was married in 1982.
Although Jaycee was born in Los Angeles, he grew up in Hong Kong and attended all male schools there until he moved back to Los Angeles at 15 where he attended co-ed schools.
Due to being bullied for lack of his ability to speak English fluently at that time, his father enrolled him in boxing lessons to protect himself. During one boxing match, his opponent punched Jaycee with enough force to land him in the hospital resulting in a permanent scar on his stomach due to the injury that required surgery.
Jaycee attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia for two semesters, where he lived on the third floor of the Fauquier residence hall. He studied primarily Japanese, and frequently impressed fellow students with his tap-dancing and video game skills.
Jaycee returned to Hong Kong in the last months of 2003 and is currently popular there and in Mainland China. He is fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Taiwanese. In addition to his musical and acting skills, Jaycee is noted for his sincerity, humbleness, politeness and subtle humor. However, his pop music career has suffered slightly because of his father's disparaging comments about the quality of his music.
Unlike other "successful" (or one hit wonder) new Cantopop singers or actors in Hong Kong whom mostly relied on their parents or relative backgrounds for support. Jackie Chan has personally told the press that Jaycee future career in the entertainment industry will not receive any "help" from him, instead he wants Jaycee earn his success through his own merits and hardwork.
