Jay Shelp was the speech and dramatics teacher at Sheldon High School in Sheldon, Iowa. He founded the Sheldon High School Summer Theatre program and was inducted into the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) Hall of Fame in 1982. After retiring from teaching in 1995, he continued to be an advocate for theatre in the community. Through his direction, Bethel Church began their annual "Evening in December" program.
