Jawsfest

JawsFest was a weekend long celebration of the 30th anniversary of the movie Jaws. The festivities took place in June 2005 on the island of Martha's Vineyard where the movie was filmed. Many fans from around the world attended JawsFest.

The "fest" included:

  • Island businesses recreating the island to look like the fictional "Amity Island"
  • A screening of Jaws on a big screen at Vineyard Haven harbor, where the opening bonfire scene was also recreated.
  • Appearances by members from the cast and crew, who told stories about the production, and signed autographs. This included Carl Gottlieb (co-writer of the screenplay, and Meadows), Peter Benchley (author of the novel, and co-writer of the screenplay), Susan Backlinie (Chrissie), and Jeffrey Kramer (Deputy Hendricks).
  • Islanders telling stories about the filming
  • Memorabila being shown
  • The display of a full head to gills replica of the shark
  • A ball at the Hot Tin Roof
  • A clambake (in an asphalt parking lot)
