From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jasper Vinall (died 28 August 1624) was the first known cricketer to be killed while playing the game when he was accidentally struck by the bat of Edward Tye. Playing for a Sussex team at Horsted Keynes, Vinall was trying to catch the ball when Tye went to hit the ball for a second time. The matter was recorded in a coroner’s court, which returned a verdict of misadventure.
