Jason White, played by Tristan Lake Leabu, is a fictional character in the film Superman Returns. He is the son of Lois Lane.

[edit] Character history

Initially, Jason is presented as Lois' son with her fiancé, Richard White. However, it is strongly implied later that Jason's biological father is actually Superman.

Jason has asthma and is a "fragile" child, according to his mother. When Jason is first exposed to kryptonite in the hands of Lex Luthor, the boy at first appears to be weak and frightened, inspiring Lex to ask Lois who the child's real father is. Upon bringing it closer, however, the kryptonite's effect on Jason is unclear. Not long after, it is later implied that Jason throws a piano up over a ledge, sending it flying toward Brutus, one of Luthor's henchmen who was threatening Lois' well-being. He had been frightened and out of breath just moments before, but afterward he pulls out his inhaler only to realize he doesn't need it.

In another scene, Jason may have opened a door by destroying the lock, but this is questionable since Richard arrives and opens the door from the other side at the same time. Later, with Superman close to drowning in waters far below, Jason points him out to Lois and Richard, although Superman wasn't deep in the water at the time.

While Superman is comatose, Lois says she needs to tell him something, and whispers in his ear. In this same scene, Jason kisses Superman on the forehead, after which he woke up.

Superman visits Jason late one night. While the boy is sleeping in his bed, Superman, standing over him, delivers the familiar soliloquoy that his own father Jor-El gave to him on the Planet Krypton in the movie Superman (slightly modified). This speech ends with the line "the son becomes the father, and the father becomes the son".
