[edit] About Jasmine

Poor Jasmine Thomas isn’t an orphan, but she might as well be.

Her humanitarian parents are far too busy saving the world to bother about their lonely daughter who’s spent years languishing at boarding school hoping to find someone to love her. So when Jasmine was sent to stay with her uncle Ashley in Emmerdale during summer 2005, she was less than impressed.

Locked away in her room with books, Jasmine cut a lonely figure and only resident madwoman Steph Stokes seemed able to make friends with her.

However, her solitude didn’t last for long. Although she was the polar opposite to troublemaker Debbie Dingle, the two girls managed to put their differences aside and become mates. Add their bad boy pal Daz Eden to the mix and Jasmine finally had people in her life that cared about her.

When she was sent back to boarding school after the holidays, Jasmine was heartbroken. She’d got a bit of a crush on Daz, loved hanging out with Debbie and had even become fond of her uncool uncle.

However, Jasmine came back to Emmerdale earlier than expected. Having been suspended from school after taking the rap for a prank, she was in Ashley’s bad books and spent her first few days being berated for her bad behaviour.

But, the rebellious Jasmine wasn’t going to stay at home for long. After discovering her equally troublesome granddad Sandy was around, Jasmine took off to hang out with him and Debbie and soon Ashley gave up trying to discipline her. Seeing the chance for the proper family life she’d always craved, Jasmine was quick to try and mend the rift between her uncle and her granddad.

Although it took a long time, she and Ashley’s wife Laurel managed to forge some sort of truce and now the family co-exist without too much heartache at the vicarage. After Christmas, Jasmine was sent back to boarding school again but quickly got herself expelled. She begged to be allowed to go to the local college to do her A levels and after much begging, Ashley relented.

However, it wasn’t school work that would dominate most of Jasmine’s time. Her friendship with Debbie Dingle had become much more intense and when Debbie was kicked out by her family, the Thomas’ took her in.

Desperate to get a reaction from her dad Cain, Debbie enlisted Jasmine’s help on a number of wind up schemes – the most effective being a lesbian kiss in Viv Hope’s café! While Debbie thought is was just fun, for Jasmine the kiss took on a far greater significance. Both confused about their feelings, the girls started having a romantic relationship, shocking the entire village.

But Jasmine was entirely uncomfortable being the talk of the Dales and couldn’t relax in public with her girlfriend. Unsure if she was a lesbian or not, Jasmine fell prey to the evil schemes of Cain Dingle. Determined to hurt daughter Debbie for giving away her baby Sarah a few months back, Cain deliberately seduced Jasmine and ensured Debbie found out in the most brutal way possible.

Jasmine was absolutely horrified to realize she’d been used to hurt Debbie and fell into a terrible depression. She tried everything she could to get back in Debbie's good books. Just when she thinks everything with Cain has blown over Jasmine finds out that she's pregnant.

She ends up confiding in Debbie who realises that Jasmine needs her so forgives her. Though at first Debbie tries to talk Jasmine out of having an abortion when Debbie realises that Cain wants Jasmine to have the child she supports Jasmines decision.

When Cain finds out he is angry and attacks Jasmine and after originally being angry with her for not telling them her family forgive her.
