Jarvis J. Offutt

1st Lt. Jarvis Jenness Offutt (October 26, 1894-August 23, 1918) was the first Omaha, Nebraska aviator to be killed in World War I. Offutt Air Force Base is named for him.
Offutt was a graduate of Omaha High School and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale University.
He earned his wings with the Royal Canadian Flying Corps. He ferried aircraft for the Corps across the English Channel on behalf of the British Royal Flying Corps. He was killed in Valheureux, France. Accounts vary as to whether it was an accident or whether he was shot down.
Offutt Air Force Base was named for him on May 10, 1924.
