Jared Grace

Jared Grace is a fictional character and the protagonist of The Spiderwick Chronicles. He is a nine year old boy who lives with his recently divorced mother and siblings. The story begins as the Graces are about to move temporarily into their aunt's dilapidated home.

Jared soon discovers that all is not as it seems when he discovers a Field Guide created by his presumed-dead great-uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Soon he and his older sister Mallory and identical twin Simon find a secret library and are whisked into a series of dangerous events with faeries and other fantasy creatures.

Jared is brave and resourceful, a natural leader and good at creating plans. He is mature for his age but is often blamed for doing wrong. His intentions are usually good, but only his sister and brother and a few faerie friends are available to help him in his final effort to thwart the evil surrounding the Spiderwick Estate and save his family from peril.
