Jaquio
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Jaquio is a recurring antagonist in Ninja Gaiden and its sequel, Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos. The title "Jaquio" is a play on the Japanese kanji 'Ja-Ki-Ou,' which literally means 'evil demon king.'
His real name is Guardia de Mieux, which is a poor Portuguese translation of the phrase "the guardian of man's desire."[verification needed]
In the Japanese versions, his name is 'Devildoer,' whereas his real name is Guardia de Mieux.
[edit] Ninja Gaiden
The Jaquio is the head of the Demon Clan, whose sole desire is to revive Jashin, the demonic God of Destruction. He is also a master sorcerer. His lieutenants are the Malice Four (Barbarian, Bomberhead, Basaquer and Bloody Malth) and his bodyguards are his demonic dogs, the Kelbeross.
Sometime after the archaeologist Walter Smith and his friend, the former head of the Dragon Clan, Ken Hayabusa discovered the Amazon temple which housed the body of Jashin, the Jaquio discovered it and made it his headquarters. However, in order to revive the demon, the Jaquio needs two key items: the light and shadow statues of Jashin, which both Ken and Dr. Smith had taken with them.
Jaquio launches a campaign in order to retrieve the two statues. Malth challenged Ken to a duel, of which the former had won, but has failed to get one of the statues. However, he does use his tricks to brainwash Ken into serving him as the Masked Devil. By this time, Smith has gone into hiding with his statue, while the other one somehow is acquired by the CIA agent Irene Lew.
Meanwhile, Ken's son, Ryu Hayabusa, has arrived in America and is carving a path of destruction through the Jaquio's forces, killing the Barbarian and later, Bomberhead. Through Irene, Ryu has the Shadow Statue in his possession. Ryu comes across Dr. Smith inside his cabin and while Smith is explaining the backstory of the temple and of the statues, an enemy ninja comes in and steals the shadow statue.
While Ryu pursues the thief, several more of the Jaquio's henchmen pay Smith a visit. They find the light statue and leave Smith for dead. When Ryu finds him after getting the shadow statue from Basaquer, Smith tells him before he dies that both him and his father had kept one of the statues so that the demon could not be revived.
While Ryu is blackmailed into going to the Amazon, the Jaquio kidnaps Irene and uses her as a bargaining chip for Ryu's statue. Once the Jaquio has both statues in his possession, he activates a trapdoor, sending Ryu to the Prison of the Dead.
"It's mine," the Jaquio gloats. "Tonight is the night of rebirth which comes only once every 700 years. This world will soon be mine."
However, there is still Ryu to deal with, once the Jaquio realises that even Bloody Malth has fallen to the younger Hayabusa. But the Jaquio still has the Masked Devil - Ryu's father, which the Jaquio reveals to Ryu once he arrives at the Black Throne. However, Ryu breaks the mind control and frees his father.
Furious, the Jaquio appears. Screaming that both Hayabusas will die, the Jaquio fires an energy blast at Ryu. However, Ken steps in, using his own body as a human shield to protect his son. Ryu screams foul and takes on the Jaquio and wins.
[edit] Ninja Gaiden II
Even though the Jaquio was defeated, he was revived by the Emperor of Darkness, Ashtar. During this time, while Ashtar plays his game of cat-and-mouse with Ryu, Ashtar claiming that he was controlling the Jaquio, it was in fact Jaquio controlling Ashtar in his scheme to open the Gate of Darkness.
After Ashtar's defeat, the Jaquio gains possession of Ashtar's weapon, the Dark Sword of Chaos, the diametric opposite of Ryu's Dragon Sword. He encounters an injured Irene Lew and military operative Robert T. Sturgeon while they are escaping. Irene recognises him instantly. But before she can warn Robert as to who he is, the Jaquio injures Robert and kidnaps Irene.
When Ryu arrives at the altar, he sees Irene, scared out of her mind. Then the Jaquio himself makes his presence known, much to Ryu's dismay. "One can never destroy the Power of Evil," he muses.
He then explains that their previous battle a year earlier served nothing more than to "awaken the ancient, true Spirits of Evil," and once the Sword of Chaos reaches full power, the Gate of Darkness will be opened and Irene's life force will be used to summon the demons from their slumber.
The Jaquio: You should be proud. You two shall make the beginning of a new Age. The Age of Eternal Darkness! (laughs)
Ryu: Are you finished? I've had enough of your speeches. And I've had enough of YOU!
The Jaquio: Then fight, Ninja Dragon -- the last of your clan. Now, we shall decide whether Light or...Darkness is to be the true master!!
The ensuing battle is hard and fierce, with Jaquio learning some new tricks. However, in the end, he proved to be no match for Ryu's swordsmanship. As the Jaquio lies on the ground dead, his blood spreads along the ground, until it reaches the Dark Sword of Chaos and awakens it. Irene is killed as the sword drains her energy and the Gate of Darkness is opened.
The Jaquio himself is revived. However, his mind is destroyed and his body changes to a demonic beast, the tendrils from it cover the entire room, encasing the ninja in a chamber of pure, organic evil.
Ryu defeats the Jaquio again, and once again, the Jaquio shifts, this time into a form similar to that of the Demon Jashin. Ryu defeats the Jaquio for a third time, putting the demon to rest permanently.
