Japanese national university

There are 89 National Universities (kokuritsu daigaku 国立大学) in Japan. Although there are many more private universities that offer Higher education, the national universities are held in higher regards.
In 2004, the National University system underwent partial privatization and is now referred to as the National University Corporation.
