Japan-North Korea Pyongyang Declaration
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Japan-North Korea Pyongyang Declaration, signed in 2002, was the result of the first Japan-North Korea summit meeting. The declaration included issues related to resolving the poor relations that had marked the pasts of the two countries. Among those discussed at the meeting were the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations, economic assistance for North Korea including humanitarian aid and low-interest long-term loans, and the future of missile and nuclear development by both.
North Korea also agreed to extend its moratorium on missile tests, in place since 1999, a promise which the United States and Japan believe the country has recently broken (See North Korea and weapons of mass destruction).
