Janet Dempsey Steiger

Janet Dempsey Steiger (born June 10, 1939 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; died April 3, 2004 in Fort Myers, Florida) was an American politician. She graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. On August 10, 1963, she married William A. Steiger, who was elected to the United States House of Representatives. They had one son William A. Steiger, Jr. who is presently Assistant Secretary for Global Health at the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services.
A member of the Republican Party, she was chairman of the Federal Trade Commission from August 11, 1989 to April 11, 1995.
