Janelle Monae is an American R&B/Hip-Hop Singer. Originally from Kansas City, KS she was first featured on the Purple Ribbon All-Star's Compilation Got Purp? Volume 2. Her next major feature was on OutKast's movie soundtrack for Idlewild. She is currently signed with record label Purple Ribbon Entertainment, founded by OutKast's Big Boi.

Janelle made her debut in Atlanta in the Fall of 2002. At the time she was enrolled at Clark Atlanta University and performed at various events in the Atlanta University Center. Her first solo project "The Audition" consisted of majority acoustic production from fellow AUC group BOF (Best of Friends) and from Nate "Rocket" Wonder and Chuck Lightning of Wondaland Productions.

Janelle is currently preparing for her second project "Metropolis" to be released on Purple Ribbon once they receive major distribution.

Janelle Monae is also featured on the Jaspect's Album "Broadcasting the Definition" on the song "Peachtree Blues".
