Janakpuri

Janakpuri is one of the best middle class residential colonies in West Delhi. It is divided into four major blocks namely A,B, C and D which are then further subdivided into sub-blocks e.g. C-2-C, C-2-D, C-4-E, D-1, B-2 and so on. It was once the largest planned residential colony in Asia.It is really a clean place and the people are well mannered and behaved.

Markets: All the blocks of Janakpuri have at least one local market. However the more popular markets in Janakpuri are the C-4-E market and the B-1 super market. Now, the District Center has become the most popular shopping centers in the West Delhi. It boasts of a multiplex, some multi-storeyed shopping cum office complexes, restaurants, book shops, gift stores, brand outlets, courts, Transport Authority, Telephone Exchange. It is undoubtedly the commercial hub of West Delhi.

Schools: Janakpuri is home to some very good schools like St. Marks ,St. Francis de Sales & D.T.E.A Sr Sec School at B-1 etc.

Places of Worship: There are many Temples, Gurdwaras, Churches and other places of worship but one of the most notable, vibrant and active places is the Kripa Dham. One cannot go past it, without hearing the musical chanting. of "Ram Ji Ram Ram". Janakpuri has set a rare example by allowing three different religious centres (a Temple, a Gurdwara and a Church) to stand peacefully next to each other. It is a true representation of a secular country that is India.

Hospitals: Janakpuri has a good network of public services such as hospitals and nursing homes. It has the large multi specialty Mata Channan Devi Hospital and is served also by the government run Deen Dayal Upadhay Hospital in Hari Nagar which has also started building its 600 bedded super specialty wing in Janakpuri itself.

Transportation: Janakpuri has a very good transportation infrastructure and is very well connected with other parts of the state by DTC and private buses. The most common mode of public transport is bus. Janakpuri has an excellent network of chartered buses that ply from almost all blocks of Janakpuri to any place in Delhi and the National Capital Region that has offices. The chartered buses are privately operated buses and charge nominal fares. Delhi Metro is growing fast and is aldready sharing the load of commuters load with the bus service, having 3 stations in Janakpuri(Uttam Nagar, Janakpuri East and Janakpuri West). The long awaited Dwarka to Barakhamba Road has been flagged of on 31 December 2005.
