I am a doctoral student in the history department at the University of California, Santa Barbara with a master's degree from the University of Washington (2006). At a basic level, I am primarily interested in the Soviet system: its pan-European context, its ideology, the influences of its successes and failures on states throughout the world (and vice versa), and particularly, its collapse. My dissertation (in progress) looks at "internationalist" OSTK separatists, their goals and their political language in the crisis that led up to Moldova's civil war in the early 1990s. I explore who these separatists were, how they came to power, and how they spoke about themselves and their movement.
I am married and enjoy hunting edible mushrooms. I am fanatic about opera.
