Commander James Bond also known as 007 is a fictional British secret service agent created by novelist Ian Fleming for the debut novel Casino Royale in 1953. He is the protagonist in twelve Fleming novels and two short story collections, the last being published in 1966. Following Ian Fleming's death in 1964, many continuation novels by Kingsley Amis, John Pearson, John Gardner, Raymond Benson, and Charlie Higson were published with the latest release, Blood Fever being released in 2006.

Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman's EON Productions started the official cinematic run of Bond in 1962, with the release of Dr. No. Since then the Bond film franchise has become one of the most successful and lucrative franchises in the film industry spanning 20 official films, 2 unofficial films, and one television episode. Officially, a total of five actors have portrayed agent 007; Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan. Actor Daniel Craig stars in the first official adaptation of Fleming's novel Casino Royale released on November 14, 2006.

In addition to novels and films, Bond is a prominent character in many computer and video games, comic strips and comic books and has been the subject of many parodies. Read More...

Selected article

Robert Markham is a pseudonym created by Glidrose Publications in the mid-1960s. By 1967, Glidrose, the publishers of the James Bond novel series created by Ian Fleming, had exhausted all available material written by Fleming before his death in 1964. Desiring to continue the high-selling James Bond novel franchise, Glidrose decided to commission a series of new novels, which would be written by different authors, but all credited to "Robert Markham." The first, and to date, only, author commissioned however was Kingsley Amis, who was a close friend of Fleming's and had written a number of Bond-related books, including the popular James Bond Dossier. Colonel Sun, Amis' novel, was published in 1968.
