Jamshed Nusserwanjee Mehta

Jamshed Nusserwanjee Mehta was born in Karachi on 7th January 1886.

In 1918 , he was elected a councilor of the Karachi Municipal Corporation. He was soon elected the President of the Corporation. He served in that capacity for 12 years and become the first Mayor of the city. In the thirteen years during his President-ship and Mayoralty of Karachi, he transformed the city into a great and important Metropolis.

As a member of the Sindh Legislative Assembly, he served every field of human life and activity. He was the father of scouting in Sindh as well as in Karachi and one of the founder members of the Boy Scout Movement in India, and later on in Pakistan. He was the Deputy Chief Commissioner of the GHQ and its Honorary Treasurer. Our Sea Scout Land Ship is named after him.

On 1st August 1952, Jamshed died. To commemorate the Jamshed Nusserwanjee 1886-1986, Pakistan Post Office issued a stamp of Rs 3 denomination on January 7, 1988.
