[edit] Prominence

Over the last 134 years the Jamia has endeavoured to preserve the traditional understanding of Islam and its normative sciences by the means of thoroughly recognized unbroken chains of Islamic authorization viz; the Ijazah and the Isnad, which go back to fourteen centuries to tie the institution and its scholars all the way to the Prophet Muhammad, may peace be upon him.

As the largest Islamic university in Southern India, the Jamia is considered to be the Azhar al-Hind or Al-Azhar University of India for its quality of education as well as the educational and social services it has rendered to the community in the past century and more. It was mainly due to the scholarly works accomplished by the outstanding faculty of the Jamia Nizamia in the late 19th and 20th centuries that the State of Hyderabad served as as a hub of academic activities for the entire sub-continent. Undoubtedly, the Jamia constitutes a major part of Islamic history in the sub-contntinent, particularly, the Deccan.

[edit] Research

The scholars of Jamia Nizamia researched and published around a 1000 books including rare Arabic manuscripts which are the essential books for Islamic knowledge. The project was mainly accomplished under the auspices of another world famous research institute known as the Dairatul Ma`arif an-Nizamiyyah or Dairat al- Ma`arif al-Uthmaniyyah. Furthermore, the graduates of Jamia Nizamia also established the Lajnah Ihya al-Ma'arif an-Nu'maniyyah which facilitated them to advance research and publish many more unpublished Arabic manuscripts pertaining to the Hanafi fiqh and Islamic Legal Theories at-large.
