Jamestown Mall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jamestown Mall is a shopping mall located in Black Jack, Missouri, a bedroom community near the St. Louis suburb of Florissant, between downtown St. Louis and Alton, Illinois. It is anchored by JCPenney Outlet, Macy's and Sears. The mall also features a 14-screen cinema. Dillard's had an anchor in the mall until it closed in August 2006. Overall, the mall is not in very good shape, economically—a victim of the dead malls phenomena. Although the surrounding area has seen some new residential development recently, the mall still suffers from many of the same problems that have been plaguing the majority of St. Louis-area malls—unfavorable demographics, small size, and bad location. The location of Jamestown Mall is, in fact, quite strange. Though the mall opened in 1977, the area surrounding it remains semi-rural to this day. The mall is situated at the intersection of Lindbergh Blvd and Old Jamestown Rd, about 3/4 of a mile from Missouri Highway 367, a lightly-trafficked highway leading across semi-rural to rural territory from the St. Louis northern suburbs to Alton. Old Jamestown is a minor two-lane road, while Lindbergh is a major route, though the section that passes by the mall is lightly trafficked compared to the busy stretch just to the west in Florissant.
