From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sir James Richard Marie Mancham KBE (born Aug 11, 1939, Victoria) was the first President of Seychelles from 1976 to 1977. He was deposed by his prime minister, France-Albert René. Sir James is also the author of two books, one about the coup called Paradise Raped and a recent book about Seychelles in relation to the War on Terrorism. He leads the Democratic Party but reportedly has little popular support because of what is viewed as an excessively close friendship with René Lutz. He ran for president in March 1998, receiving third place and 13.8% of the vote.
