James Kenny

James Kenny was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

He was approximately 31 years old, and a private in the 53rd Regiment (later, the King's Shropshire Light Infantry), British Army during the Indian Mutiny. On 16 November 1857 at Lucknow, India, Private Kenny showed conspicuous bravery at the assault on the Secundra Bagh. In spite of a heavy cross-fire he volunteered to bring up fresh ammunition to his company. This action earned him the VC.

He was killed in action, Mooltan, India, on 3 October 1862.
