James Fitzpatrick (hurler)

James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick (born 31 January 1985) is an Irish sportsperson. He currently plays in the centre-field position on the Kilkenny senior hurling team.

Cha Fitzpatrick was born in Ballyhale, County Kilkenny in 1985. He was educated locally and later studied mechanical engineering at University College Cork. Fitzpatrick plays his local club hurling with Ballyhale Shamrocks. Since beginning his playing career at senior inter-county level he has won 1 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 2 Leinster Championship medals and 2 National Hurling League medals. Fitzpatrick also has a host of underage awards, including back-to-back All-Ireland minor medals in 2002 and 2003 and a Leinster Under-21 medal from 2004 when he captained the side.

2006 proved a very successful year for Cha at both inter county and club level. He was on the 2006 Leinster and all-Ireland winning, the Walsh Cup and the National Hurling League with Kilkenny. He also won a Leinster and All-Ireland U21 title with Kilkenny. At club level, his club side Ballyhale Shamrocks won the Kilkenny Senior League and the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship. His club then went on to win the Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship.

Fitzpatrick won an all star award for his performance at Midfield for Kilkenny. He also won the Vodafone All Stars Young Hurler of the Year and was named on the inaugral GPA Hurling Team of the Year. He was also honoured for his club performances with Ballyhale when he was named as the Kilkenny Club Hurler of the Year.[1]
