James E. King

James E. "Jim" King (born October 30, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York) is a state senator from Florida's 8th district, living in Jacksonville. Senator King was President of the Florida Senate from 2002-2004 and also served as the Majority Leader of the Florida Senate from 2000-2002. In 2001 he sponsored a law to prevent public access to autopsy records without the consent of the deceased's next of kin (which resulted from the aftermath of the death of race car driver Dale Earnhardt). In 2005, he led the effort to attempt to block the bill that restarted life support for Terri Schiavo, also known as "Terri's Law".
