James Crossan-Cobourg Car Works

James Crossan-Cobourg Car Works was an early streetcar builder and based in Cobourg, Ontario.


Founded in 1866 or 1867 by James Crossen Jr.(1826-1890), the company supplied railcars to most of Canada's early railway companies.

The end of the company is unclear, either it failed in 1915 or was sold to [[Canadian Car and Foundry in 1910 or lost the business charter in 1926. It was clear the railcar business was risky with bigger players in the 20th Century.

The company built cars for the Toronto Railway Company (SE-ST-M) and Birney cars for rival and city owned Toronto Civic Railways. Railcars were bought by:
