James Boothe, formerly known as Mark Preston, is a fictional character on Passions. James has been played by Jackson and Ryan Keane from July 22nd, 2005 until October 2006 and by Seth Stern since October 26th, 2006.

Supposedly, James is the only child of Greg Walton and his first wife, Maureen Preston, born sometime in late 2000 or 2001. When James was very young, his father became involved with the mob, and was eventually forced into the witness protection program. As a result, Maureen divorced Greg, who took up the name Christopher Matthew Boothe in the program, and took their son, whom she began calling Mark, into hiding. It was later revealed that Chris was never married to Maureen and James isn't his child. James' real father had died, leaving Maureen a widow and James an orphan. This also means that James' real name is probably Mark.
[edit] Childhood
James and his mother arrived in Harmony in July of 2005. While at the park, he met Sheridan Crane, who was stunned by the similarities between the little boy and her own missing son, Marty. Maureen invited Sheridan back to her home, and the three were there when a tsunami courtesy of the earthquake that Tabitha and Endora started devastated the township of Harmony, ultimately killing Maureen. Sheridan then took "Mark" in, bonding deeply with him.
After the tsunami, James's supposed father, Chris Boothe, arrived in Harmony. He claimed to be a photographer, in town to capture the damage done to the town on film, but he had really been relocated by the FBI. Chris was delighted to find his little boy, and the two soon began working to rebuild their relationship.
Chris and Sheridan bonded while taking care of James, eventually falling in love. James started thinking of Sheridan as his mother, and in fact refers to her as such. They married early in 2006, making their little family unit official. Sheridan became pregnant with Chris's child, but tragedy struck when Sheridan miscarried the baby.
In August 2006, Spike revealed that Chris wasn't James father or Maureen's husband.
In October 2006, Sheridan legally adopted James.
