James Allum

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Allum is an instructor and politician in Manitoba, Canada. He currently teaches at the University of Winnipeg, and was a candidate for the New Democratic Party in the Canadian federal elections of 2000 and 2004.

Allum holds a Ph.D. in Canadian and environmental history from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He was an instructor of Canadian History at Queen's in 1995, and his lectures at the University of Winnipeg have received favourable reviews from the student body. Allum has also worked as an archivist for the city of Winnipeg, and as of 2004 serves as Senior Consultant in the Strategic Management Division of the city's CAO Secretariat. He is also a member of the Manitoba Heritage Council.

In the 2000 election, Allum received 7,501 votes in the riding of Winnipeg South Centre, placing third. In 2004, he received 8,270 votes (about 21% of the total) in the same riding. The NDP does not have a strong base of traditional support in Winnipeg South Centre, and Allum's results were regarded as a strong showing for the party.

As of 2005, Allum serves as president of the New Democratic Party of Manitoba.
