James A. Harding

James A. Harding was an early influential leader in the Church of Christ.
Harding University, Harding Academy, and Harding University Graduate School of Religion are named after him. There are actually two schools that honor James A. Harding with the name Harding Academy: one is in Searcy, Arkansas, the other is in Memphis, Tennessee. Harding University is in Searcy, Arkansas and Harding University Graduate School of Religion is in Memphis.
James A. Harding helped found Harding College in Morrilton, Arkansas in 1924. This school moved (after about a decade) to its present location in Searcy, and now it is known as Harding University.
He also helped David Lipscomb, another Church of Christ leader, begin what is now known as Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Harding was the first president of this school, serving from 1891-1901.
