Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh is a radical Islamist organisation from Bangladesh. It was one of two Islamist groups banned by the government in 2005. The organisation claimed responsibility for the bombings and other terrorist activities in Bangladesh in 2005. [1] The organisation was since been banned by the current ruling party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party[citation needed].
The organization was founded by Bangla Bhai in the northern Rajshahi region and they claim to fight for the introduction of Islamic law. In August 2005 the group launched more than 300 small bomb attacks simultaneously in 50 cities and towns across Bangladesh, including in the capital Dhaka. The group has also threatened numerous journalists, with more than 55 receiving death threats between September and December 2005 [citation needed].
