Jaime Caruana, born March 14, 1952, was Governor of the Bank of Spain from July 2000 to July 2006.

Caruana was born in Valencia, and graduated in telecommunications engineering from the Technical University of Madrid in 1974.

He served a six year term as Bank of Spain Governor, beginning July 21, 2000 and ending in July 2006. In addition to the governorship, he has also been chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision since May, 2003. He was named counsellor and responsible for a FMI department in 2006 by Rodrigo de Rato.

He is succeeded at the Bank of Spain by former secretary of State for Commerce, Miguel Ángel Fernández Ordóñez.
