Jai Hind is a salutation most commonly used in India in speeches and communications pertaining to or referring to patriotism towards India (also known as Hind). It literally translates to Victory to India. The Indian freedom fighter Dr.Champakaraman Pillai, who was a national hero of India during the war of independence, introduced the salutation. Subhash Chandra Bose, popularly known as Netaji, followed his example and continued its use.
Currently army and paramilitary soldiers in India use this salutation to address the officers of superior rank.
